The origins of Minuteman
American War of Independence
The term Minuteman came into use circa 1774 in what is now the United States of America (USA).

The original Minuteman was a member of a team of select men from the ranks of the American colonial militia. A Minuteman was required to be ready for battle within one minute and be capable of rapid deployment. Men so selected were designated as Minutemen. Every Minuteman underwent additional special training.
Minutemen consisted of one quarter of the entire militia. They were typically young and mobile; serving as part of a network for early response to any threat. The Minutemen were specifically selected for their enthusiasm, political reliability and strength.
The selection of a Minuteman to be an officer took place by popular vote.
The Minuteman militia typically assembled as an entire unit in each town between two and four times per year for training during peacetime, but as the inevitability of a war became apparent, the militia trained more often. The minute companies trained three to four times per week. It was common for officers to make decisions through consultation and consensus with their men as opposed to giving orders to be followed without question, sometimes even in the midst of battle.
Minuteman project, defence corps and similar
Various official and unofficial Minuteman groups exist to promote and assist in the security of the USA border with Mexico and certain coastal regions. In particular Minuteman groups are against the unlawful and unauthorised entry of individuals, contraband and foreign military. The name Minuteman has been adopted due to its original associations of patriotism, bravery and vision. The project has increased awareness and media attention to illegal immigration.
LGM-30 Minuteman missile
The only land based ICBM in use in the USA. A silo launched, ground attack guided missile. The Minuteman missile was introduced in 1970 and having received numerous upgrades Minuteman is planned to remain in service until 2040.
Minuteman is a guided missile with three solid fuel stages and in the post boost stage, a liquid fuel propulsion system rocket engine used to fine tune the trajectory of the re-entry vehicle.
Minuteman Press
Minuteman has been used in varying contexts. The name Minuteman Press was chosen to convey reliability, speed of response, expertise and professionalism.
