Giclee for Czechoslovakia exhibition

The year 2018 marked the 100th anniversary of the formation of Czechoslovakia following separation from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The centenary was venerated on a summer day in Bristol by performances, games, literary presentations, Czech and Slovak food and beverages, throughout an event filled day. Visitors travelled from origins including Slovakia, Czech Republic and the US; honoured guests included representatives from the Czech and Slovak Embassies in London. The occasion was joyous and brought together attendees due to their routes and interests in Czechoslovakia and its transformation to the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The culmination of festivities was the planting of a lime tree, the national emblem of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, in St George’s Park, Bristol BS5. The lime tree planted is a direct descendant of the legendary Singing Lime Tree from Telecí in the Czech Republic.

The event was organised by the Bristol Czech and Slovak school Stonožka. The vibrant school is located in the St George area of Bristol BS5; the place of Czech language and cultural education for 60 children and growing.

The Stonozka School were honoured to host a special exhibition entitled A New Republic is Here; the digital artwork for which was loaned by the Comenius National Pedagogical Museum and Library (Prague, Czech Republic). The digital artwork consisted of a series of large panels required to be reproduced to exacting museum quality for a special exhibition at the anniversary event.

The 10 exhibition panels were faithfully reproduced using Minuteman Press Bristol’s in-house calibrated HP large format giclée printer and printed on premium satin art 200gsm substrate. The quality of reproduction was examined and verified by the School Principal Mgr. Veronika Dvořáčková to ensure compliance with the exacting requirements stipulated by the Comenius National Pedagogical Museum.

The installed exhibition was well received with favourable feedback concerning the quality of reproduction. Minuteman Press Bristol are thrilled and honoured to have been involved with this prestigious project, not least because one of our Directors is from the Czech Republic!
